Project Description

Located in Pacific City, Oregon, adjacent to the beach and Cape Kiwanda, Pelican Brewing Company’s original taproom restrooms have undergone a full remodel. Built in 1996, the restroom facility was ready for an update to accommodate the brewpub’s high volume of patrons. The new all-user design takes cues from the Pelican’s iconic brand identity. Textures and colors are inspired by the coastal palette, and the materials are robust and durable.

Completed on a fast-tracked timeline, the work includes an expansion and reconfiguration of the restroom and updates to all fixtures and finishes. The space is encased in shades of blue: variegated wall tile is paired with stained wood doors that lead to the private compartments that line the perimeter. The design is anchored by a centrally-located trough sink and mirrored screen wall. This hand washing island was designed in collaboration with and fabricated by Cement Elegance and Steelab. An abstracted sunset mural by Don Masterson makes use of an existing masonry wall and incorporates Pelican’s “Born at the Beach,” tagline, connecting the space to its coastal context.
